Our Mission

The Filipino - American Physicians of Washington ( FAPWA)

was founded in 1992 by a group of medical doctors in the Puget Sound for the purpose of fostering camaraderie, upholding the highest standard of professional conduct, enhancing academic excellence and rendering voluntary charitable service locally and abroad. This, to elevate the Filipino doctor as a leader in the community it serves.

Our Beginnings

In 1991, Dr. Manuel Roco and Dr. Joseph Sueno , both former presidents of PMSPNW , prepared the groundwork for FAPWA. They decided to form an organization for Filipino medical doctors solely residing in the state of Washington.

Dr. Sueno worked fervently to lay the foundation for a new societal entity. He was the interim president of the organization that is being formalized. He developed the Constitution Committee consisting of three members: Dr. Alicia Buyco, Dr. Leticia Elizaga and Dr. Anita Paves. Thus, FAPWA’s first constitution and by-laws was drafted in October,1992 by using the pre-existing template of PMSPNW.
