FAPWA has been fulfilling its mission of service.

Doctors are empowered catalysts of change. We therefore impact our world with the intention to contribute, serve and lead.

FAPWA has consistently particiapted in various projects both in the USA and in the Philippines spearheaded by its rich history of capable leadership . For more than two decades , FAPWA’s “adopt a community” concept serving the indigent Aetas in Burog has become a model for other US based medical groups . FAPWA’s tradition lives on and is dotted with memorable milestones as its past presidents worked on a platform during their tenure of office to foster FAPWA’s mission of service.

DR. ANG GREATLY EXPANDED MEMBERSHIP BY ENCOURAGING PHYSICIANS TO JOIN AND HE RAISED FUNDS VARIOUS SOURCES TO SUPPORT ITS ACTIVITIES . IN THE EARLY 90’S , THE HEALTH CARE REFORM AND BALANCE BUDGET ACT WAS A HOT POLITICAL ISSUE. FAPWA SOUGHT TO INFORM MEMBERS OF HOW HEALTH CARE REFORMS WOULD AFFECT MINORITIES AND THEIR MEDICAL PRACTICES.


 

Alejandro Paves,MD

Dr. Paves, is a very dedicated doctor to his craft . He sought FAPWA’s incorporation and sponsored the first “health fair” at the Filipino Community Center in Seattle,Wa. Thereafter, the health fair was held at the Seattle Center to coincide with the “Pagdiriwang Celebration” on June 12 every year.

DR. ROSCETTI LED THE ACADEMIC COMMITTEE , AND HAD COLLABORATED WITH VARIOUS PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES FOR REGULAR CME’S/LECTURES WITH ITS MEMBERS. HE ALSO STARTED THE TRADITIONAL “CHRISTMAS CAROLING” AS A YEARLY FUND-RAISING EVENT . HE CHOSE TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT THE PHILIPPINE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE.

DR. BERNIE CONTINUED TO EXPAND THE REACH OF THE ORGANIZATION .HE STARTED STUDENT LOAN AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS. HE ALSO SUPPORTED THE MEDICAL OUTREACH IN LA UNION , PHILIPPINES AND CONTINUED TO CARRY THE TORCH AND LIVED FAPWA’S MISSION.

DR ANITA PAVES’ TERM HIGHLIGHTS THE MISSION OF FAPWA AS IT SOUGHT TO SERVE THE MOTHERLAND. MEDICAL EQUIPMENTS TO OUR LADY OF PEACE HOSPITAL IN PARANAQUE, METRO MANILA WERE SPONSORED AND SHIPPED TO ADD TO THE HOSPITAL’S CAPACITY TO SERVE ITS COMMUNITY. DR PAVES ALSO SPEARHEADED A MEDICAL OUTREACH TO THE UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES OF THE ISLAND OF PALAWAN.

 

Ladie Arana Domondon, MD

DR. DOMONDON ORGANIZED THE FIRST SIZABLE FAPWA MEDICAL MISSION AND INITIATED SHIPMENTS DONATED MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO THE PHILIPPINES, BOTH OF WHICH BECAME STAPLES OF FAPWA . SHE INITIATED THIS EFFORT WITH THE SUPPORT OF DR RULLAN’S TERM. FAPWA SHIPPED SEVERAL ANESTHESIA MACHINES TO JANIUAY, ILOILO DURING FAPWA SMILE SURGICALLY REPAIRED OVER 20 CLEFT LIPS/PALATE CASES AND PROVIDED MONETARY DONATIONS TO THE PHILIPPINE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE FOUNDATION. THE FIRST FAPWA WEBSITE WAS DEVELOPED AND SUPPORTED YOUNG FILIPINO PHYSICIANS AS SUBINTERNS IN ORDER TO PREPARE THEM FOR RESIDENCY PROGRAMS IN THE US. SHE ALSO SOLIDIFIED FAPWA AS A PUBLICLY SUPPORTED NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATION OBTAINING ITS IRS 501(C)(3) CHARITY TAX EXEMPT STATUS . SHE CONTINUED TO STRENGTHEN FAPWA, INCREASED ITS MEMBERSHIP AND EXPANDED TO REACH OF THE ORGANIZATION.

 

Nick Panlasiqui, MD

Dr. Nick Panlasiqui was able to work with “Gawad Kalinga” in building the clinic in Burog, Tarlac. He also conducted medical outreaches in Pangil and Cavinti,Laguna. He was a very industrious and compassionate leader in helping others. He was instrumental in procuring hospital beds and other medical equipments to support needy hospitals in the Philippines. He continues to be an active proponent in collaborating with other like minded and mission oriented organizations.

 

Joy Ruiz-Molleston, MD

president 2006-2008

Dr. Molleston’s term highlights the organization’s mission to serve the indigent population our motherland. Shipments containing medical equipments such as hospital beds, wheelchairs and bed sheets to different nursing homes and hospitals. She spearheaded a weeklong medical and surgical mission in the Island of Marinduque in Feb 2007 in collaboration with the Marinduque International Group. FAPWA continued to participate in yearly “Pagdiriwang” Celebrations and yearly Health Fairs to provide preventive services to Filipinos in the Seattle Metro Area . She continued the CME’s in collaboration with various pharmaceutical companies. These activities boosted membership as the population of Filipino doctors in the Puget Sound continued to grow. During her time, FAPWA also assisted the Physicians for PEace Prosthesis Program of the University of the Philippines , attended their annual conference , donated money to further their cause. She also spearheaded the continued support for the Burog,Tarlac Medical Clinic.

 

Glenn Pacio, MD

president 2008-2010

Dr. Pacio sponsored medical outreaches in Baliuag, Bulacan and IloIlo , Philippines. He started a feasibility study for an artesian well for the Gawad Kalinga Village in Burog , Tarlac. In coordination with the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), FAPWA took part in the health summit on medical missions during the national conference in 2008. He continues to serve as an adviser to the organization.

 

Marilyn Nayan, MD

president 2010-2012

specialty: occupational medicine

Dr. Nayan’s term was dotted with a big shipment of hospital beds( 130), medical equipments and surgical instruments to Rogaciano Mercado Memorial Hospital in Sta. Maria Bulacan, Philippines. This area was devastated by typhoon Ondoy and these medical supplies made a big impact in providing essential medical care to the community. FAPWA also donated money to flood stricken communities . Many other areas were served by FAPWA namely: Western Samar, Pangil, Laguna and Tanay, Rizal. FAPWA also supported other charitable clinics and organizations that provided free care for the uninsured individuals in Washington State. FAPWA continued to participate in the Annual Health Fair in Seattle.

 

Connie Patulot, MD

president 2012-2014

specialty: Pediatrics

Dr. Patulot conducted medical and surgical missions in Cavinti, Laguna ; Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya and Tabuk, Kalinga Apayao in the Philippines. During her term , the Philippines was ravaged by super typhoon Haiyan and Pablo . FAPWA was able to donate money to help with relief efforts. Other FAPWA members also served in other areas through medical outreaches. Moneys were donated for fishing boats to a needy seaside village as a means for them to continue their livelihood. Participation in the Health Fair in Seattle in collaboration with Beta Sigma Fraternity offered blood drives.

 

Dante Arranza, MD

president 2014-2017

Dr. Arranza served with humility, power and consistency. he served for three years and during this time, fapwa continued to grow and with the dedication of its members , Dr arranza led the organization into the future. during this time,there were significant changes in the medical practice landscape. with the many challenges that doctors in general faced, fapwa became a place where its members found encouragement and belonging. fapwa however continued to grow as the migration of filipino doctors to the puget sound and throughout the state continued to rise. it was an opportunity for fapwa to make an impact. dr arranza made inroads to connect filipino doctors in eastern washington as well as the creation of more awareness among newer filipino doctors in the area. Dr arranza continued to fan the flame as he spearheaded regular meetings, picnics, and led a medical outreach to his town of dagupan(?). he made sure that collaboration with like minded organizations continued with fapwa’s mission of service.
